Irland 2017

At the beginning of the school year the students of year 4 had to decide where to spend their one-week language week. We could choose between Great Britain, Ireland, France or Italy.  The students of classes 4C and 4B decided to travel to Bray, Ireland near Dublin while class 4A went to Great Britain.

The journey of classes 4B and 4C started in the afternoon of 29th April when our flight took off at 16:15 from Vienna International Airport. After 2.5 hours up in the air everyone was happy to be on solid ground again. When we arrived at the language school in Bray, our host families were already waiting for us to take us to their houses, which would be our new home for the next 7 days. Most of us shared a bedroom with one or two friends in a host family’s house.

The first full day in Ireland was Sunday. It started with an excursion to Glendalough and the historic jail in Wicklow. Finally, we went to the beach to marvel at the wonderful view and watch the waves of the Irish Sea. Despite or perhaps even because of all the rain, this was the highlight of the day for most of us.

The next morning we travelled to Kilkenny by bus to visit the town’s castle and the city. A guide led us through the impressive castle and told us the most important facts. After a short tour of the town, our bus driver took us home to our host families again where we spent the evening.

On the following four days we spent the mornings between 9 am. and 1 pm. at ATC Language School in Bray.  On Tuesday, after lessons, we travelled to Dublin and took part in a city tour (some shopping afterwards was a must J) Another landmark  we visited on Thursday was the Guinness Storehouse.

Most evenings we ate dinner at the homes of our lovely host families and had the chance to talk to them and get to know them better. On Thursday all students from both classes met in the evening at a local bar to listen to some traditional Irish music and (those who were old enough J) to taste a Guinness.

All in all, our journey to Bray was an incredible and eventful week, which helped our class to get to know each other better and to have a wonderful time together while improving our English language skills.
