London calling – that was the motto for 4CK in June, accompanied by Britta Kasa-Zimmermann and Christina Peinhopf. The trip to the capital city of the UK allowed the students not only to improve their English in language classes but also to discover one of the most impressive cities in Europe. Placed with English host families in Greenwich, the students were immersed in the English culture and language 24/7.
Everything started with a stopover in the famous university town Cambridge where we could see people punting on the river and got an impression of college life in the UK. The next day, a guided tour of Greenwich, which is best known for the prime meridian and for giving its name to Greenwich Mean Time (GMT), was followed by a visit to one of the most spectacular shows in London right now – Abba Voyage. In this show, digital avatars take the stage and perform the most famous and beloved Abba songs – a concert experience without the singers physically there!
The diverse program also included the most famous sights. We discovered Central London on a walking tour, passing Buckingham Palace and Trafalgar Square, China Town, Downing Street, London Eye, Westminster Abbey and the Houses of Parliament with the Queen Elizabeth Tower, better known as “Big Ben”. A visit to the iconic Tower Bridge as well as a river cruise on the Thames were also included.
One of the many highlights was the Warner Bros. Studio Tour London where students could experience the magic of the Wizarding World and discover the making of Harry Potter. On a day trip to Brighton, we could also enjoy the seaside, walk on the famous piers, and discover the Royal Pavilion. Another cultural experience was a visit to the Natural History Museum. Of course, there was also plenty of free time for the students to discover the city on their own and go on a shopping spree in the famous shopping streets. The trip ended with a stopover in the lovely town of Windsor with its historic buildings and the stunning Windsor Castle.
